Psychosocial work characteristics associated with distress and intention to leave nursing education among students; A one-year follow-up study

Dropout in later years of the nursing degree programme involves lost investment and is a particular problem for both students educators. Reasons late dropout seem to be related work learning environment clinical placement. The aim this study was investigate associations between psychosocial characteristics distress intention leave education among third-year students. A prospective cohort study. Bachelor Nursing University Applied Sciences Netherlands. 363 Baseline one-year follow-up measurements were used from Third-year invited annually May 2016 2018. Psychosocial psychological demands, supervisor co-worker support, acts offensive behaviour. Logistic regression analyses build multivariate models. Frequent exposure violence (OR = 2.52, 95% CI: 1.29–4.92) univariately associated with distress. In model distress, demands 1.63, 1.05–2.52) frequent 3.02, 1.48–6.19) Supervisor support 0.54, 0.36–0.80) 0.41, 0.24–0.72) negatively (i.e. protective) univariate model. adjusted model, only 0.50, 0.25–0.97) protective factor an leave. Psychological are risk factors reducing last stage programme. Improving working climate may reduce at education, hence actual dropout.
